Another Successful Weekend For The Rockets
Posted on Feb 21, 2011
Well the Rockets had another successful weekend.  The first game of the weekend, the puck dropped at 7 pm at the Woodland Arena Saturday night where the girls faced the Lake of the Woods AA Girls Team.  Our girls managed to bury the puck 7 times in the Kenora net for a score of 7-0.  Fayth Chambers recorded her first shutout of the season for the Rockets.  Avery Baker buried the first goal, assisted by Hayward and Olson. This ended up being the game winning goal. Chelsey Paquette scored 3 times for her first Rockets Hattrick of the year assisted by Baker/Hayward on the first 2 and Baker/Harapiak on the third, our assistant Savannah Kirton netted a couple assisted by Olson/Chambers on the first and Olson/Litwin on the second.  Our captain Stefanie Hayward put a solo goal past the Kenora netminder assisted by Baker/Dodic.  The girls played there hearts out and were rewarded with their 2nd win of the season.  The second game of the weekend was a little bit of a nail biter against the Dryden AA peewee girls team.  The puck dropped at 1 pm on Sunday Afternoon.  Avery Baker scored the only regulation time Rockets goal in the second period assisted by Hayward/Dodic.  The scored stayed 1-0 until the final minute of the game where Dryden had us blocked in on our own end with their goalie pulled and managed to slip it by our netminder to tie it up.  The 5 minute overtime wasn't enough to finish the game so we went to the always exciting shootout.  Avery Baker was the first one up and she made a nice move to beat the Kenora goalie on her backhand.  Fayth Chambers came up successful on Drydens first try.  Savannah Kirton was the next shooter for us and she made a beautiful move and buried the puck in the top corner, and again Fayth came up successful in stopping the second Dryden shooter.  The Red Lake Rockets girls took another win of their season for a final score of 2-1.  It was a great weekend and our girls played hard and were rewarded for it.  They are now 3-0 for the season, and again we look forward to the next game in Vermillion Bay at the Woodland Arena on March 13th.
